Quaids getting closer to becoming immigrants in Canada but US still wants them back

Hollywood actor-turned-asylum seeker Randy Quaid has cleared a major hurdle in his bid to stay in Canada, but extradition back to the United States to face criminal charges is not out of the question. The Canada Border Services Agency had withdrawn its bid to have Quaid deemed inadmissible to the country. And Quaid’s wife, Evi, now has full Canadian citizenship and has begun the process of sponsoring her husband, meaning Quaid could end up dropping his refugee bid. “When Evi and I came to Canada last October we can never have envisioned how things would unfold and how our lives would change,” Quaid said. “Today we’re here to say, ‘Thank you, Canada. Thank you for your warm welcome. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to live in peace.'” But Santa Barbara County Senior Deputy District Attorney Lee Carter told Postmedia News that prosecutors have consulted with the US Department of Justice about possibly extraditing the Quaids to the US to face outstanding criminal charges. “Extradition is one of the options that we have used to return people to our jurisdiction,” he said. “All options will be explored.” (vancouver sun)
