NJ State Bar Association: Appoint a qualified female lawyer or judge to 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals

The 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals in Philadelphia is only one step below the US Supreme Court and has jurisdiction over all Immigration Court cases in NJ and PA. Now, with Judge Maryanne Trump Barry retiring, only 2 women are left. Thus, the NJ State Bar Association Board of Trustees adopted a resolution, sent to President Obama, urging him to appoint a qualified female lawyer or lower court judge to the post. “The association believes that the paucity of female judges on the court needs to be addressed to assure that the court will benefit from additional diversity among its members,” wrote NJSBA President Richard Steen.
As a former Chair of the Immigration Section of the NJ State Bar Association, I applaud this resolution.
