Judge: Student visa issue shouldn’t prevent top ranked Florida basketball team from playing in tourney

February 10, 2011 § Leave a comment

Miami-Dade Circuit Court Judge Spencer Eig gave Krop High’s basketball team a temporary injunction to allow the team compete in upcoming district championships. “I think it would be fundamentally unfair not to allow these students play basketball,” said Eig. The Florida High School Athletic Association previously ruled that the team must essentially forfeit its winning season after coaches failed to file required immigration paperwork for star player Bryan Delancy, a 19-year-old Bahamian national here on a student visa. Judge Eig decided to let the Krop team play, but told the FHSAA to continue their investigation. (wsvn)
