DeNiro makes deportation joke at Golden Globes

January 17, 2011 § Leave a comment

Robert De Niro tried too hard to be funny and get some easy laughs with awkward immigration jokes during his accepting speech of Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Awards at the 2011 Golden Globe Awards. The 67 year-old started to thank the Hollywood Foreign Press for the award. “Thank you for this extraordinary honor. I was very, very moved when you made the announcement two months ago, well before you had a chance to review ‘Little Fockers.’ I saw those. It’s OK, we all have our jobs to do,” De Niro said. However, the speech quickly went from tangibly funny to extremely awkward, when De Niro proclaimed, “I’m sorry more members of the foreign press aren’t with us tonight, but many were deported right before the show along with most of the waiters. And Javier Bardem.” (bumpshack.com)
