3 Seattle Sounders get green cards

December 27, 2010 § Leave a comment

Sounders defender Jhon Kennedy Hurtado, forward Blaise Nkufo and midfielder Steve Zakuani have received their green cards, giving them permanent resident status. The green cards give the Sounders more flexibility on their roster, as Hurtado, Nkufo and Zakuani no longer will take up international player slots. Hurtado, 26, is a native of Colombia and one of the Sounders’ top defenders. He was a finalist for Major League Soccer defender of the year in 2009 and played in the All-Star game, but he was injured early in the 2010 season and missed most of the year. Nkufo, 35, is a Swiss national who arrived in Seattle after playing for the Swiss in the World Cup. Despite playing just half of the MLS season, he was the team’s third leading scorer. Zakuani, 22, is a Democratic Republic of the Congo native who spent most of his childhood in England. He scored 10 goals and had six assists in 2010. He is currently training with Everton of the English Premier League. (sounders blog)
