New Immigration Detention Center in York or Newark?

If U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement were to select York County for a new illegal immigrant detention center, it would almost certainly be a windfall for York County in terms of revenue and jobs, according to County Commissioner Doug Hoke. Last week, ICE confirmed that York County is one of at least three locations the federal agency is considering for the detention center. In October, several ICE representatives drove up from Washington, D.C. They listened to York County Prison warden Mary Sabol give a presentation about the capacity and features of York County prison, then they left. And that, from York County’s perspective, was where things left off. ICE is also considering Essex County, NJ. Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo told northjersey.com that he has been on four interviews with ICE, and said representatives of the agency were expected back last week for another look at Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark.
