Fugitive Becomes Fireman

May 19, 2008 · No Comments

Chris lives in Central Jersey.  He first hired our firm a number of years ago.

His family had brought him across the border as a child, to seek refuge from their homeland in Central America.  They had escaped a civil war in which hundreds of thousands died.

At some point in the early 1990s, Chris’ family lost a bid for asylum and he was ordered deported.   He essentially became a fugitive.

Chris, a quiet, wiry guy, married a nice, educated American woman.  They bought a house and planned a life together.  They hired us to reopen his deportation case.  We were successful in doing so.  He now has a green card.

Chris now works as a fireman and recently told us about getting trapped in a basement when the stairs collapsed.   The flames’ temperature reached nearly 1000 degrees.

So here was this guy (who certain folks might regard as a former blight on society) acting about as heroically as one might imagine.

Fortunately Chris and his fellow firefighters made it out of the house alive.   They did their job and contained the blaze all the while risking their lives.

There are thousands of stories like the one about Chris.

At FRANK & YORK we humanize the plight of the unfortunate immigrant who is treated harshly by the system.  It’s an important system, but there are exceptions to every rule.

The government will behave in a humanitarian fashion when it is deemed appropriate.

If you believe that you are danger of being removed from the US please contact us.
